The service provided by Shajiraku (hereinafter referred to as “Shajiraku”) aims to form a new style of tourism which provides hospitality to foreign travelers visiting Japan with exclusive, high added value to support traditional culture and the operations of temples and shrines in Japan’s depopulating society.
Completely transforming the existing overconcentrated style of tourism will greatly increase the opportunities for temples and shrines to be given offerings/donations not only domestically but from overseas as well. For successors of traditional culture, we aim to increase their opportunities to be active more than ever.
When using our website, please read the following terms of use and apply for services that we offer after agreeing to these terms.

Shajiraku is a travel agency which offers a service which takes carefully selected spaces (hereinafter referred to as “Locations”), including temples, shrines, cultural and historical facilities which were until now not generally available to the public, and provides these special spaces for private use.
We offer a one-of-a-kind specialized service which allows customers to not only enjoy viewing historic landscapes that change each season but also experience high-quality traditional culture and special culinary-based hospitality with a small group of family members, friends, etc., and experience Kyoto firsthand.

The Shajiraku website allows customers to select the Location/experience/food combination that they desire. Due to the special characteristics of Locations, there are certain experience and food options that are not available for selection. Selection is given in the following areas of priority: (1) Location, (2) Experience, (3) Food. Please use the website to select what you want inline with these conditions. Shajiraku enrolls all customers in travel injury/liability insurance to guarantee the safety and security of customers, temples/shrines, and experience providers. In addition, the fees listed on our website include insurance fees. Insurance enrollment procedures are handled by Shajiraku.

After reservation is completed, we will create a list of the names of all the customers who made the reservation. Be sure to provide us with the necessary information (names, ages, genders, occupations, addresses and telephone numbers of all members of the group, in addition, nationality and passport number for all foreign customers) via E-mail by 9 am Japan Standard Time the day on which the reservation is scheduled. The customer name list is used for insurance enrollment (mentioned in the preceding section) and for billing purposes. In addition, on the day on which the reservation is scheduled, we verify the identity of customers at the location. Please be sure to bring your reservation confirmation (reservation completion E-mail). Foreigner customers are asked to also bring their passport.

When a temple or shrine is selected as a location, the rental fee is accepted by the temple or shrine as an entrance fee (donation).

Services of our company are offered through arranged tour contracts. Please be sure to check our Terms and Conditions as contract terms are listed there. In addition, any items which are not listed in the terms and conditions, the Arranged Tour Contract Section of the Standard Form Travel Agent Contract (Japan Tourism Agency notification) shall apply.

For arranged tours offered by our company, in addition to the total cost of the product selected by the customer and the entrance fee, a travel business handling fee of 10% is also charged (consumption tax is included).

After making a request for a provisional reservation, if it is possible to accept the reservation, we will send you an E-mail stating our acceptance of your reservation as well as an E-mail with a link to an invoice from PayPal. Please settle payment via PayPal by the payment date. Since the completion of the payment sets the reservation and completes the reservation procedure, our company will send you an E-mail stating that your reservation has been completed. Since the E-mail stating that your reservation has been completed is a reservation confirmation based on the Travel Agency Act, please be sure to check it along with our Terms and Conditions.

When an arranged tour contract is concluded by our company and the customer, our company will provide the customer with the following information via E-mail: The content of the service related to tour that our company needs to provide, matters concerning compensation which needs to be paid to our company by the customer, the name of tour manager, the presence or absence of an interpreter, and reservation confirmation in writing that indicates the right to receive the offer of service related to the aforementioned tour.

Drinking under the age of 20 is strictly prohibited under Japanese law. Absolutely no food, confectionery, or alcoholic beverages can be brought for consumption during the tour by customers. Even during meals, if staff determines that excessive drinking is taking place, we will suspend provision of alcoholic beverages.

All facilities used by Shajiraku are very precious. Please note that relevant precautions will be explained to customers by the staff in advance. All services will be suspended if customers are unable to follow the precautions. If service is interrupted, a refund cannot be made for any reason.

The private use of spaces, as stated by our company, does not mean the rental of a room involving the closing of facility grounds and excluding general visitors. Customers may see general visitors on the premises.

Shajiraku recognizes that information which can be used to identify any related individuals, including customers, experience providers, interpreters, and location providers, (personal information) is an irreplaceable and important asset. To properly protect this information, we will comply with laws concerning the protection of personal information so that its secrecy is kept, handled accurately and safely, and we will properly implement protection of personal information in accordance with the following policy. Business through the Shajiraku website falls under “mail order sales” as prescribed by the Specified Commercial Transactions Law. Since mail order sales involves a transaction between parties at a distance, our advertisements are the only information sources for consumers. If the description of our advertisements is inadequate or unclear, it will cause trouble at a later date. Therefore, the Specified Commercial Transactions Law stipulates what items need to be displayed in advertisements. For details, please see Display of Items in Advertisements in Accordance with the Specified Commercial Transactions Law. However, the Specified Commercial Transactions Law does not apply to contracts concluded with overseas residents.

The establishment, entry into force, and interpretation of these terms of use shall be governed under Japanese law. Furthermore, if a dispute arises between Shajiraku and the customer is caused by or related to Shajiraku’s service (including listed information and advertisements) or its software, the Kyoto District Court will have exclusive jurisdiction of the first instance.

It is legally prohibited to reproduce, put to other use, or otherwise use content on this site without the permission of the copyright holder. Reproducing the content on this Shajiraku website, putting it to other use, or otherwise using it without the prior permission of the copyright holder is therefore strictly prohibited.
